New York Mets star shortstop Francisco Lindor is recovering from a calf injury. According to Laura Albanese of Newsday Sports, Lindor, as well as outfielder Tyrone Taylor, will begin a rehab assignment at Double-A on Friday. Lindor still has work to do before returning, but the fact that he is beginning a rehab assignment is obviously an encouraging sign.
The 32-year-old has been limited to 24 games played so far this season due to the injury. He has hit .226/.314/.355 across those 24 games.
The five-time All-Star is still among the best players in the game. He made a big impact during the 2025 season, as he earned his fifth career All-Star selection and ended up hitting 31 home runs to go along with an .811 OPS.
Overall, the Mets are 33-41 and in last place in the National League East standings. While it has been an underwhelming season for the ball club, they could still compete. It is only June. A few good weeks could see the Mets make things interesting in the National League Wild Card conversation.
Lindor’s return — when it does happen — will certainly help matters. It remains to be seen when he will return, but it could happen fairly soon given Thursday’s news.
Updates on Francisco Lindor’s injury status will continue to be monitored and provided as they are made available. Meanwhile, the Mets are set to begin a big series against the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday night. First pitch for the game between the National League East rivals is scheduled for 6:40 PM EST in Philadelphia.
