Fever’s Caitlin Clark opens up on what signature shoe means to her

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark ticked off another box on her bucket list with her first signature shoe, the Nike Caitlin 1. For the past few weeks, Clark had been hinting at the release date. Now, it has been confirmed that it will be on October 1.

It is yet another testament to the popularity and influence of Clark, who has helped lift women’s basketball to unprecedented heights even before she entered the WNBA.

The sweet-shooting guard became a national phenomenon at Iowa. She silenced a multitude of naysayers, including fellow players, who said her game would not translate to the WNBA. While she is still trying to regain her momentum following an injury-riddled campaign last year, it is almost impossible to bet against her.

For the 24-year-old Clark, her signature shoe is a product of her dedication.

“Kind of like a kid on Christmas. You get to show the world what you’ve been working on for a couple of years, and you’re just really proud of the work that we did together,” said Clark in a media conference.

“For myself, obviously, it’s been a long time coming. So I’m just really thankful.”

The two-time All-Star wore the Nike Caitlin 1, which has an all-blue colorway, on Thursday against the Atlanta Dream at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Clark said she was still in disbelief.

“Getting to play in them today, I feel like I keep looking down at my shoes when I’m warming up. I’m sure I won’t do that in the game. I’ll be just playing in the flow. But it’s obviously super cool,” added the former Rookie of the Year.

She signed an eight-year deal with Nike worth $28 million just weeks after the Fever drafted her with the No. 1 pick in 2024.

It took two years for Clark to get her signature shoe, but it is safe to say that it was worth the wait.
