Angels’ Mike Trout refuses to put hard timeline on hamstring injury with ASG looming

Mike Trout is hoping to compete in his first All-Star Game since 2019, especially since the venue is located less than 50 miles from his hometown, but his chances of competing inside the Philadelphia Phillies’ Citizens Bank Park on July 14 just took a fairly big blow. The beloved Los Angeles Angels center fielder suffered a hamstring injury while running down the base path during Wednesday’s 8-1 loss versus the Arizona Diamondbacks and will now be sidelined for at least a couple of weeks.

MLB obviously wants to showcase its biggest and most accomplished players during the Midsummer Classic, but once again, Trout will carry a question mark heading into the annual event. The Millville, New Jersey native is unsure if he will be able to represent the American League in the 2026 ASG, which obviously paints a bleak picture for his regular season return.

“I really haven’t thought like that,” the three-time MVP and two-time All-Star Game MVP said, per MLB.com’s Rhett Bollinger. “Obviously, I want to play if I get voted in, but no timeline. If I put a timeline on things, I’ve done that in the past and it’s just frustration whether you do hit it or don’t hit it.”

Trout has answered questions like this one and endured this process far too many times in his Hall of Fame career. Entering the Angels’ series opener against the Athletics, he had played in 74 of a possible 75 games this season. The 34-year-old had been displaying noteworthy durability after playing in just 396 games combined in the previous five campaigns (less than half). Now, he is headed for another potentially lengthy stint on the injured list.

Mike Trout is slashing .234/.394/.472/.866 with 17 home runs, 36 RBIs and an AL-leading 54 runs scored in 335 plate appearances.
