Wyndham Clark birdies 18 to take commanding US Open lead at Shinnecock

Wyndham Clark has experienced it all at the US Open. The Denver, Colorado native was fueled by the memory and wise words of his late mother when he claimed his first major title at Los Angeles Country Club’s North Course in 2023. He was fueled by rage when he missed the cut at last year’s event and subsequently smashed century-old wooden lockers at historic Oakmont. And now, he should be fueled by confidence after vastly outplaying his competition through the first two rounds at Shinnecock Hills.

Clark followed up his sensational 6-under par 64 on Thursday with a 69 on Friday and currently owns a four-stroke lead at time of print. Although there is still a long way to go until he can seize his second US Open Championship Trophy, the 32-year-old has already accomplished a terrific feat at the Long Island, New York golf course. He just became Shinnecock’s new 36-hole record-holder, according to the PGA Tour X account.
