USA vs. Australia is officially underway! This is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, matches in the history of USMNT soccer. The squad has never once clinched a spot in the knockout rounds after the second match of World Cup play. That could change in just under two hours.
Let’s take a look at the clinching, group-winning scenarios for the Americans as they battle against Australia.

A win for the USA and they are already through to the next rounds. If Paraguay beats Turkiye or they finish in a draw on Friday, plus a USA win, then the Americans win the group.
The game started with fireworks for the Americans. Folarin Balogun attacked the Australian keeper and forced an own goal from the Aussies. Cameron Burgess tried to clear the ball but put it in the back of the net instead. Sometimes, all you need is a perfect cross, and a goal will come.

Balogun has been amazing for the United States in this tournament. He has been a part of three goals so far and scored two against Paraguay. He is the man to watch in this contest with Christian Pulisic out with a calf injury. The USMNT did not want to take any risks with his injury, with a lot of soccer left to be played in this tournament.
The Americans will want to score at least 1-2 more goals to feel safe against the Australian squad. This team shocked the world with two goals against Turkiye and has a lot of momentum on their side, despite the early gaffe.
Stay tuned for more live USA updates through the match!
