New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr was forced to leave Thursday’s contest with an unfortunate groin injury. But it doesn’t appear it’ll have any lasting affects on the infielder.
Chisholm is back at second base and batting five on Friday, the team announced. The Yankees are set to begin a three-game series at home against the Cincinnati Reds.
The fact Chisholm had to leave the game was frightening. New York is sure to be keeping a close eye on the infielder upon his return from injury. But Chisholm appears to be in the clear. As long as he doesn’t foul tip a ball into his groin again.
Through his first 70 games in 2026, Chisholm is hitting .228 with 10 home runs, 30 RBIs and 20 stolen bases. While his batting average may not be pretty, the second baseman leads the team in stolen bases and ranks fifth in home runs and runs scored (37). He may not have the power of some of his Yankee teammates, but Chisholm fills a crucial role in the offense.
Entering Friday, New York held a three game lead over the AL East with their 45-28 record. The Yankees are focused solely on winning a World Series. That’s a goal Chisholm has stated publicly. The franchise believes they are stronger with the second baseman on the diamond.
They will have that luxury on Friday against the Reds. Barring any setbacks, that should remain true moving forward. Chisholm was sure in a lot of pain when he went down on Thursday. But he is at least back in the lineup one day later.
