On Monday, the Hockey Hall of Fame will announce their class of 2026, and it remains to be seen whether or not former NHL forward Keith Tkachuk will be among them.
Understandably, his sons Matthew and Brady Tkachuk, who are now stars in the NHL in their own right, want him to be included among this year’s inductees. While speaking on their “Wingmen with Matthew and Brady Tkachuk” podcast, both brothers stated their case for their Dad to be forever enshrined in Toronto.
“The Hall of Fame nominees – Big Walt,” Matthew said. “Let’s get Walter in, finally! 500 goals….538?
“Second most American,” chimed in Brady.
“He probably would have had 600 goals or 700 goals if he’d had just stayed out of the penalty box,” Matthew joked. “Four Olympics, a silver medal – like, that changed a generation. Like, that ’96 team, our team still talked about it. We talked to all those guys before the Olympics. What he’s done for hockey in our area of St. Louis since he’s been here – developing players, and getting guys off to either the NHL or college – the mark he’s had on the game of hockey, get him in! Get the big man in! He deserves it.”
“It’s big Walt’s time,” concluded Brady.
Keith Tkachuk, who was drafted by the original Winnipeg Jets with the 19th overall pick in the 1990 NHL Draft, has been known by the nickname “Walter” for decades now. In 1,201 career NHL games with the Jets/Coyotes, St. Louis Blues, and Atlanta Thrashers, Tkachuk scored 538 goals with 527 assists, while also contributing 28 goals and 28 assists in 89 postseason games.
