Rumor: Warriors contacted Hornets about potential NBA Draft trade

As the NBA Draft nears, teams are eyeing potential deals that could make sense for them now and in the future. One of those teams, according to new report, is the Golden State Warriors.

The NBA Draft order is set, with the Warriors scheduled to have the No. 11 pick in the Draft.

But according to ClutchPoints’ NBA insider Brett Siegel, the Warriors are putting calls in around the league to see if they can add to their first round draft total. Most recently, those calls went out to the Charlotte Hornets.

“A couple of weeks ago, the Warriors made a call to the Charlotte Hornets to inquire about whether there was a deal to be had where they could acquire both their 14th and 18th picks,” Siegel reported on Friday. “The Hornets showed no interest in trading both picks, with sources indicating that they’re very comfortable maintaining their position in the draft.

“That has not stopped Golden State from searching for more trade possibilities. The Warriors are said to be open to moving down in this year’s draft for the right price, and the idea of adding another pick in the late teens in addition to this 11th pick is not out of the realm of possibilities.”

As it stands, the Warriors are in a tough position, as Stephen Curry and Draymond Green are no longer enough to carry the Warriors into the playoffs. On top of that, Jimmy Butler is expected to miss a good chunk of the 2026-27 season as he recovers from a torn meniscus in his knee.

Warriors General Manager Mike Dunleavy recently stated at a press conference that the Warriors can’t be too picky about which position they select in the NBA Draft given that every position is a position of need for the franchise.

The NBA Draft is scheduled to take place on Tuesday night inside the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
