NBA rumors: Celtics checked in on Timberwolves’ Rudy Gobert at trade deadline

The Boston Celtics inquired about Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert at the trade deadline, and may revisit those talks within the next week. As Celtics trade rumors continue to heat up, this is the first time a report involving the Timberwolves has surfaced. However, given the fact that Boston will need additional size to match up with Karl-Anthony Towns, Jalen Brunson, and the champion New Yok Knicks, Gobert makes a lot of sense.

In hopes up upgrading their roster ahead of the 2026-27 season, the Celtics have once again expressed interest in Gobert, according to The Stein Line’s Jake Fischer.

“In reference to Minnesota’s interest in White, which The Athletic’s Sam Amick first reported Friday morning, trading him for Rudy Gobert would represent a clear salary match,” Fischer reported. “Sources say that Boston, furthermore, has inquired about Gobert before … most recently at February’s trade deadline.”

The Timberwolves have reportedly experessed interest in All-Defensive guard Derrick White, who could be involved in a potential swap for Rudy Gobert, if the Celtics were to land the nine-time All-Defensive center this summer.

Gobert averaged 10.9 points on 68.2% shooting, 11.5 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks for the Timberwolves last season.

With Bucks All-Star Giannis Antetokounmpo being the subject of rumors as his team continues to search for the best deal availabile, Celtics’ Jaylen Brown has been linked to trade rumors ever since. While the Bucks comb through proposals for Antetokounmpo, fans on social media made one for them, involving the a three-team blockbuster swap with the Clippers, and their No. 5 overall pick.

The chances of the Bucks, Celtics, and Clippers executing such a deal is not likely, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.

“As I discussed on my weekly Bleacher Report video stream Tuesday, I’ve been told emphatically that a three-team trade concept making the social media rounds in which the Clippers join a three-team Giannis construction with the Bucks and the Celtics and take on Brown while surrendering the No. 5 overall pick is not a real conversation,” Stein said.

Many believe that the Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes will end the night of the draft, on Tuesday.
