Seattle fans serenade USMNT with John Denver staple after Australia win

The American team is having a great run so far at the World Cup. The United States men’s national team defeated Australia on Friday, 2-0. Following the win, fans in Seattle serenaded the Americans with a John Denver song.

That song is the classic track, Take Me Home, Country Roads. Fox Sports captured the moment in a powerful video that went viral.

The win was absolutely huge for the American team. This is the first time since 1930 that the American men have won back-to-back World Cup matches, ESPN reported.

“It was a fantastic game again, very good first half,” USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino said, per ESPN. “I think we dominated the game against a very tough team.”

The Americans won on Friday without one of their best players. Christian Pulisic missed the Australia game due to injury.

“He’s an important player for us, Christian, but it was impossible today for him to play,” Pochettino said after Friday’s win. “We hope that next game he will be available but if we want to win the competition we need the whole team and all the players need to be important.

“But of course Christian is one of the best players in the world and I hope that he can recover as soon as possible.”

The win on Friday has the Americans thinking they can win this year’s World Cup event.

“I don’t think it’s ridiculous to say that we want to win it,” USMNT defender Chris Richards said, per ESPN. “We want to lift a trophy by the end of this.”

The Americans now have wins over Paraguay and Australia in Group D. They will next play Turkiye in the World Cup.
