The Indiana Fever have struggled early during the 2026 WNBA season. Indiana got demolished by New York on Saturday, falling to 5-5 on the season. Fever guard Caitlin Clark is now coming under fire from one columnist after the team’s disappointing first month of play.
LA Times sports columnist Bill Plaschke published a column on Sunday where he tore into Clark. Plaschke attacked both Clark’s attitude and her “average” statistics.
“In her third season in the WNBA, the once-shining superstar is acting like a spoiled brat,” Plaschke wrote. “The league’s most popular player has become its biggest lout. Her stats are decent, but her attitude stinks.”
Plaschke repeatedly pointed to Clark’s behavior towards officials as evidence that she is “whiny.”
He also pointed to the recent viral moment between Clark and Stephanie White as part of his argument.
“Clark not only disrespects officials, she is unafraid to show up her coach Stephanie White, as witnessed by their recent viral exchange on the bench during a loss to the Portland Fire,” Plaschke added.
The spat between Clark and White generated a lot of headlines and is clearly on Plaschke’s radar, too. But Clark maintains the media has it all wrong.
“I think a lot of those things happen all the time, and I know there’s a camera on me, and that’s how it’s going to be, but there’s a lot of people out there in the media or on TV that they think they know a lot of things, and they’re just blatantly wrong,” Clark said, via WISHNews8.
Ultimately, the best way that Clark can shut up her critics is by leading Indiana to more wins. The Fever have a chance to do just that on Monday night.
Next up for the Fever is a road game against the Mystics on June 8th at 7PM ET.
