Cubs’ Jacob Webb makes NSFW admission after disastrous outing vs. Blue Jays

The Chicago Cubs held a five-run lead at one point on Saturday. Pete Crow-Armstrong hit another home run, the team was playing well, and it seemed as if Chicago was about to earn a huge win. And then everything changed. The Cubs’ bullpen imploded, as the Blue Jays scored three runs in the 7th and five in the 8th to end up taking an 8-5 lead. The Cubs were able to score one more run, but the Blue Jays ended up earning an 8-6 win.

Reliever Jacob Webb had a blown save after giving up three earned runs. With closer Daniel Palencia out due to injury, the Cubs’ bullpen is searching for answers. Webb was brutally honest while discussing his performance in the game, via Jesse Rogers of ESPN.

“I didn’t fu**ing execute today, plain and simple,” Webb said. “The last few outings, I’ve made mistake after mistake and it’s pretty fu**ing frustrating. I’m not gonna lie.”

Webb, a 32-year-old relief pitcher, now holds a 3.90 ERA across 33 outings out of the bullpen. He has performed well in recent years with the Texas Rangers and Baltimore Orioles. The Cubs were hoping for a similar performance from Webb when they added him for the ’26 campaign. While he has been impressive at times, Webb has had ups and downs overall.

Chicago is now 40-37 overall with the defeat. The ball club is in third place in the National League Central standings. The Cubs will attempt to get back into the win column on Sunday afternoon at Wrigley Field. First pitch is scheduled for 2:20 PM EST.
