NBA rumors: Celtics ‘intensify’ Giannis Antetokounmpo trade efforts with Heat in driver’s seat

The Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes are still going on, and the same two teams are rumored to have interest in him. With the NBA Draft slowly approaching, it would be important for the Milwaukee Bucks to get a deal done so they can land some draft picks, as they expect to have several this year when they trade Antetokounmpo.

Though the latest update is that the Heat are still in the driver’s seat, the Celtics have apparently sweetened their offer for the two-time MVP, according to longtime Bucks reporter Gery Woelfel.

“I was told a short time ago the Celtics have intensified their efforts to land Antetokounmpo. The source declined to get into the details. Another league source said he was told the Celtics were more receptive to moving star Jaylen Brown, although it’s unlikely he would wind up in Milwaukee but rather with a third team. While the Celtics appear focused on landing Antetokounmpo, it is generally believed Miami remains the frontrunner for the two-time MVP,” Woelfel wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

A few days ago, it felt as if the Celtics weren’t trying to trade Brown in a trade for Antetokounmpo, but now it looks like they understand what has to happen in order for them to get a deal done. The Bucks don’t want Brown, but he could get shipped to another team, where the Bucks could get more assets in return for him than what the Celtics can offer.

The thing is, the Celtics still might not want to give up Brown, especially after what he was able to do for them this past season while Jayson Tatum was sidelined for most of the year.

In the end, it feels like the Heat will be the team to win Antetokounmpo, but they may even have to make sweeten their offer.
