Jared McCain knows how to make fans laugh.
The Oklahoma City Thunder star was approached by a fan asking if he was the San Antonio Spurs’ Dylan Harper. Instead of correcting the fan for the mistaken identity, he played along with it.
“Are you Dylan Harper,” the fan asks while her car window is rolled down, as McCain is seen walking on the sidewalk.
“Oh my God, yes!” McCain says to the fans, who immediately start giggling.
Both McCain and Harper are rising stars in the NBA and are combo guards. While McCain and Harper are both in the league, that is not the only thing they share in common. Off the court, they share they both have immense pride in their Filipino roots. Harper is half Filipino, and McCain is about 10% Filipino.
“Shout out to my Asian community. [I’m] probably like 10% Filipino, but that counts,” McCain told ESPN back in 2024.
However, during NBA All-Star Weekend last year, he claimed after further insight into his family heritage that he is only 2% Filipino but still takes great pride in his heritage.
“I’m probably like 2% Filipino. I don’t know if I can claim that as Filipino. I thought it was more. My mom’s dad is adopted and I thought it was more. But if they allow me to claim it I will claim that. It’s definitely cool to just be a part of a community,” he said, adding that he would love to visit the Phillipines one day.
As for Harper, he is half Filipino from his mother, Maria Harper. Prior to the start of the NBA Finals, Harper shared that, “It’s a blessing to represent the Philippines, where I’m from. I think me and Jordan Clarkson are doing a great job doing that.”
Clarkson plays for the New York Knicks who defeated the Spurs to clinch their first NBA title in 53 years.
