Why Ken Rosenthal still believes Tigers’ Tarik Skubal will be traded before deadline

The Detroit Tigers have Tarik Skubal back in the rotation, and the team looks to pick up wins. Skubal has been the subject of constant trade rumors. While there is some speculation that Detroit won’t move him ahead of this year’s trade deadline, Major League Baseball insider Ken Rosenthal believes Skubal will be gone.

“I still believe he gets traded,” Rosenthal said, per FOX Sports.

Rosenthal gave some reasons why he believes that.

“Scott Boras’ clients of which Tarik Skubal is one, generally do not sign extensions, and he’s coming off back-to-back Cy Young awards,” Rosenthal added.

The insider thinks virtually every team in MLB wants Skubal. It is likely that he goes to a big-spending team. Some of the clubs who have been linked to him include the San Diego Padres, Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees.

Skubal had surgery this season on his elbow. He made his second start with the team since that surgery on Friday, against the Chicago White Sox. In that game, Skubal was seen getting into a shouting match with a White Sox player.

“I’m a competitive guy. I kind of wear my emotions out there and that’s part of how I play the game,” Skubal said after that game, per MLB.com. “I think it’s just baseball, going back and forth. It is what it is. It happened. It’s over with.”

In his return, Skubal threw for five-plus innings against Chicago. He recorded eight strikeouts. His ERA this season is at 3.02.

The Tigers are struggling this season. Detroit has a 32-44 record on the campaign. The club has posted back-to-back wins over the White Sox.
