Brazil’s Raphinha gets murky injury update with Neymar’s return looming

In their second game, Brazil successfully revitalized their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with an impressive 3-0 victory over Haiti, showcasing an aggressive scoring performance in the first half. After a disappointing 1-1 draw against Morocco in their group opener, the Seleção dominated the Haitian defense. Matheus Cunha scored the first goal in the 23rd minute and quickly secured a brace, while Vinícius Júnior added a smooth strike just before halftime. However, the dominant performance was marred when star winger Raphinha suffered an injury late in the first half.

According to a report by ESPN, the Brazilian national team has provided an unclear update regarding the injury of the 29-year-old Barcelona forward. Raphinha was forced to leave the match and was replaced by Rayan after receiving medical attention for a right thigh issue. Follow-up evaluations confirmed a right hamstring injury; however, the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) clarified that he has not been completely ruled out of the tournament, avoiding the immediate tournament-ending exit faced by defender Wesley.

Instead, Raphinha will remain with the squad in the United States to undergo an intensive treatment protocol aimed at resuming normal football activities as quickly as possible.

This medical setback adds to the challenges for manager Carlo Ancelotti, who is already dealing with several roster absences as he aims for the nation’s sixth World Cup triumph. Brazil entered the tournament without key attackers Rodrygo and Estêvão, as well as defender Éder Militão, all sidelined due to severe injuries.

Fortunately, Ancelotti also provided some good news, announcing that Brazil legend Neymar, who missed the first two games with a calf injury, will be available for the next fixture.

Following the comfortable win in Philadelphia, Brazil now sits at the top of Group C and will look to secure their Round of 32 berth when they face Scotland on Wednesday in Miami Gardens, Florida.
