Yankees’ Aaron Boone recalls haunting memories of Chase Burns’ debut before Father’s Day clash

The New York Yankees have been up and down over the last week, splitting their last four games ahead of Sunday’s series finale at home against the Cincinnati Reds. On the mound for that game will be young star Chase Burns, who is having another strong season for the Reds in 2026.

Recently, Yankees manager Aaron Boone spoke on his memories of the first time his squad squared off against Burns during the latter’s MLB debut in the 2025 season last year.

“Aaron Boone said that he remembers Chase Burns ‘mowing’ through the Yankees lineup to open that game in his debut last year. ‘His stuff definitely gets your attention.’ Boone said that Burns is having an All-Star caliber season and is looking like a young ace,” reported Charlie Goldsmith of FOX19 on X, formerly Twitter.

Burns is indeed one of the best young pitchers in the game this year, having cemented himself as an All-Star caliber player at the age of 23. The Yankees will hope to fare better against him this time around than they did in his MLB debut a season ago.

Meanwhile, New York is doing a solid job of holding down the fort despite dealing with several injury situations, including to franchise cornerstone Aaron Judge, who is still out of the lineup due to a ribcage injury.

The Yankees are currently sitting with the best record in the AL at 46-29, and are slowly starting to create some distance between themselves and the Tampa Bay Rays, who are in second place in the division.

In any case, the Yankees are set to get their series finale against the Reds underway on Sunday at 1:35 pm ET from Yankee Stadium in The Bronx.
