Jac Caglianone’s 2-HR game puts him in elite Kyle Schwarber company

Kansas City Royals first baseman Jac Caglianone had quite a Saturday, as his performance in the series finale against the St. Louis Cardinals put him in the same exclusive company with Philadelphia Phillies star slugger Kyle Schwarber and others.

The 23-year-old Caglianone went 2-for-3 with two walks and two home runs to go along with three RBIs, albeit in a 12-10 defeat at the hands of the Cards at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

Caglianone flashed serious bat speed in both his home runs against the Cardinals, with one going for 83.1 mph and the other clocked at 82.6 mph, according to Sarah Langs of MLB.com.

“It’s the 8th time under bat tracking (2023) a player had 2 HR with 82+ mph bat speeds in a game,” Langs shared via a social media post on X, formerly Twitter.

The other players to have done the same feat apart from Schwarber and Caglianone are Nick Kurtz of the Athletics, Junior Caminero of the Tampa Bay Rays, Jo Adell of the Los Angeles Angels and Oneil Cruz of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Caglianone’s first home run was a two-run blast in the second inning, and it went for 444 feet, cutting the Royals’ deficit to two runs, 9-7. In the bottom of the ninth, Caglianone struck again, this time hitting a solo 426-foot homer to make it 12-9, still in favor of the Cardinals.

The loss denied the Royals a sweep of St. Louis and snapped Kansas City’s three-game winning streak.

Schwarber also had a multi-home run game just recently, recording three taters in the Phillies’ 15-3 demolition of the New York Mets on Saturday.
