Blazers rumors: Portland linked to familiar frontcourt target in free agency

The Portland Trail Blazers are in their first offseason under new owner Tom Dundon, and some experts speculate that he might make a big splash with a blockbuster trade or an expensive signing in free agency.
The Trail Blazers are heavily linked to Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, with the team reportedly being aggressive in pursuing him. Antetokounmpo, however, stated that he would like to remain in the Eastern Conference, which does not bode well for Portland.
Aside from getting a foundational superstar, Rip City also has other holes to fill in the roster. The team might want to prioritize a big man to shore up the frontcourt.
According to The Athletic’s Dan Woike, the Trail Blazers are not looking too far, as they are still bullish on Robert Williams III.
“Portland, according to league sources, is expected to show interest in re-signing him after he played 59 games last season—second-most in his injury-hampered career,” wrote Woike.
Williams had his most productive campaign since breaking out in the 2021-2022 season, averaging 6.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks in 17.1 minutes off the bench. He played a key role in Portland securing the seventh seed in the Western Conference, a feat that surprised many.
As in recent years, the 28-year-old Williams has been widely linked to multiple teams, including the Los Angeles Lakers, the San Antonio Spurs, and the Houston Rockets.
He has always shown promise with his shot-blocking and athleticism, but his injury history has hampered his ability to be an interior force.
If Dundon, who bought the Trail Blazers in March for $4.25 billion, values continuity, he might want to re-sign Williams in free agency.
