Senators rumors: Brady Tkachuk trade came from locker room pressure

The Ottawa Senators traded captain Brady Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers on Sunday evening. Ottawa received two 2026 first-round picks, a 2029 top-10 protected first-round pick, and a 2030 second-round pick in return. Details are beginning to emerge about what led to this trade. And it appears as if there was some unrest within the organization.

The Senators reportedly faced some pressure to trade Tkachuk this summer. And this did not only come from Tkachuk or his agent. There was reportedly a push from players themselves for this move to take place.

“For the Senators to trade Brady Tkachuk, it means they were under pressure to do so. I’m told this pressure was also coming from the team’s locker room. This strongly explains why they agreed to trade him to a team in his own division,” TVA Sports insider Renaud Lavoie reported on social media, with translation provided by X, formerly Twitter.

Trade rumors around Tkachuk aren’t anything new. His name has been in the rumor mill for a while, especially when the team wasn’t doing so hot on the ice. However, he stayed with the Senators through the first eight seasons of his career.

Tkachuk is fifth all-time among Ottawa skaters in terms of points. He is one of four players in franchise history to score more than 200 goals, as well. He has certainly etched his name in Senators lore, even if the team ultimately didn’t experience much in the way of postseason success.

Now, Brady is off to join his brother, Matthew Tkachuk, with the Panthers. The Tkachuks and Florida all hope that this move leads to another Stanley Cup parade in South Florida this time next year.
