Braves rumors: Shortstop mentioned as trade candidate before deadline

The Atlanta Braves are going to be buyers before the MLB trade deadline. They have been the best team in baseball this season, and Atlanta will surely look to further upgrade its roster. With that being said, the Braves may look to trade more than only prospects. Mark Bowman of MLB.com recently mentioned shortstop Ha-Seong Kim as a potential trade candidate.

Bowman wrote in a recent article for MLB.com that Kim currently “doesn’t feel like he has a fit” with the Braves as Mauricio Dubon and Jorge Mateo lead the way at shortstop. Kim began the season on the injured list. He was expected to take over the starting shortstop role once he returned, but Dubon played especially well early in the season. Meanwhile, Kim has struggled across his 15 games played since returning from the IL.

Bowman also mentioned that the infielder could be included in a trade with a pitching prospect while the Braves may pay the rest of his contract. Teams in need of infield depth while also looking for an upgrade when it comes to pitching prospects could be willing to accept such a trade.

Kim is a veteran who has played at the MLB level since the 2021 season. He finished 14th in National League MVP voting in 2023 with the San Diego Padres. Kim also won a Gold Glove that season.

His .096/.175/.096 slash line at the moment will not catch many teams’ attention, but Ha-Seong Kim has time to improve his statistics before the MLB trade deadline.
