NHL rumors: Senators looking to replace Brady Tkachuk with Stars’ Jason Robertson

The Ottawa Senators have moved Brady Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers for multiple draft picks. The Senators may be looking to move some of those picks in order to improve the roster.

Now, the potential move is being revealed, according to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period.

“Things are very fluid, and there’s plenty of time for Dallas to explore its options, but sources say Ottawa is making a big push for Jason Robertson. If a trade cannot be ironed out and he hits July 1 as an RFA, the Senators could present him with a significant offer sheet,” Pagnotta posted on X, formerly Twitter.

The Senators have plenty of draft capital that can be moved for Robertson. They have the two first-round picks in the 2026 NHL Draft, which they acquired in the deal for Tkachuk, plus their own first-round pick. They have three third round pick tis year. Further, they have an extra second-round pick in 2027 and an extra first-round pick in 2029.

Meanwhile, Robertson is a restricted free agent and could be moved in a sign-and-trade. He is coming off a four-year deal in which he had an AAV of $7.75 million. He could command and eight year deal, worth north of an AAV of $12 million. With the move of Tkachuk, the Senators have almost $27 milion in cap space, and could afford a sign and trade for Robertson.

He is coming off a stellar season. He scored 45 goals while adding 51 assists. His 96 points were the second most of his career. He has played 82 games in each of the last four seasons, while having 80 or more points in every season.

The Stars will have plenty of interest in Robertson, while the Senators will have plenty of leverage to go after him.
