The Philadelphia Phillies are playing some good baseball this season, and they think they can get to another level. That would probably require them to make a trade for a star, and Tarik Skubal is on several teams’ lists as rumors continue to come out about him.
There’s one reason why the Phillies might decide to get into the sweepstakes, and Steve Phillips shared his thoughts on MLB Network Radio.
“For the Phillies, Aidan Miller, their top prospect, just had back surgery, and he hasn’t played all year,” Phillips said. “He would be a piece you want, but he’s also dinged up a little bit. This is a [Dave] Dombrowski move, getting Wheeler, Christopher Sanchez, and Skubal. Dave likes stars, but can you imagine that rotation going into the playoffs if you’re the Phillies? That’s something right there.”
If Detroit chooses to move on from their ace, could Tarik Skubal be ticketed for Philadelphia?

If the Phillies were able to pull off a rotation like that, they would definitely be a team to watch out for during the playoffs. The thing is, other teams are going after Skubal, and the Detroit Tigers are going to get the best offer for him.
That means that the Phillies will have to give up more than just Miller, especially if he hasn’t played at all this season.
As of now, the Phillies could be content with where they are, and if they continue to play like this, there’s no telling where they could end up. Dombrowski will definitely keep his options open, especially if he wants to go all in on what they’re doing this season.
The Phillies are currently 35-30 and are in second place in the NL East.
