Knicks fan in hot water after stealing themed NYC trash can

In a wild turn of events, following the New York Knicks’ championship win, a fan has stolen one of the themed trash cans that were in the city.

A video first surfaced of the fan dumping the garbage in the Knicks-themed trash can onto the sidewalk in New York City. They then walked away with the bin.

Another video then made waves online. It showed the fan on the subway, who appeared proud to be taking it home. Whoever posted the video wrote, “She got the best souvenir” over it.

The videos have gone viral, with thousands of fans weighing in on them. One person responded to Barstool Sports’ original post where the fan dumped the garbage onto the sidewalk, saying, “I repeat: New Yorkers are the cockroaches of our country!”

Another X, formerly Twitter, wrote, “Stealing a city trash can and dumping the garbage straight onto the street is absolute nasty work.”

Luckily, fans can purchase the DSNY Knicks-themed trash can from OnlyNY. The full-size trash can will run you $168, and it will ship in October 2026, just in time for the regular season.

Additionally, there is a cheaper option for fans. A smaller-scale pen holder version is also available, and it costs $58. It will also ship “at the beginning of October.”

The Knicks celebrated their first championship in 53 years in New York City, holding a parade on Thursday, June 18. The celebrations will likely continue through the summer and into the regular season.

New York beat the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals in five games to win the title. They won the first two games of the series in San Antonio to take a 2-0 lead in the series. After dropping Game 3, the Knicks stormed back from being down by as much as 29 points in Game 4 to take a commanding 3-1 lead. They closed it out in Game 5, which was once again played in Texas.
