Michigan basketball promotes Mike Boynton Jr. to interim coach after Dusty May exit

Michigan basketball wasted no time making its next move after Dusty May’s sudden exit on Monday morning. Just a few hours after May left the Wolverines to become the new head coach of the Dallas Mavericks, Michigan has promoted assistant coach Mike Boynton Jr. as the interim coach of the program, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Boynton was a popular name to replace May even before being promoted. He has experience as a head coach at the high-major level after spending seven years at Oklahoma State. On top of that, his familiarity with the program and the roster should give him a leg up in retaining Michigan’s top players.
