Twins rumors: Royce Lewis joins Byron Buxton, Joe Ryan as potential trade candidate

The Minnesota Twins are sitting in the middle of the pack in the AL Central. There have been plenty of trade rumors about the Twins moving Byron Buxton and Joe Ryan this season if they cannot make it back into the playoff race.

Now, another name is being mentioned as being moved by the Twins, according to Jim Bowden of The Athletic.

Royce Lewis is being mentioned as a possible traded player before the trade deadline on August 3.

“The only question is: Can he stay healthy? He’s healthy now, and several contending teams are looking to upgrade at third base and he can also play first base, so he may get moved. Lewis is still only 27 and although he struggled early in the season and was even optioned to the minors, he’s rebounded, hitting extremely well during his time in Triple A and continuing to mash after returning to the big leagues,” Bowden wrote.

Lewis was optioned to Triple-A during the season this year, but has since returned to the majors. He has not been great this year overall. He is hitting just .203 with a .289 on-base percentage. He has seven home runs and 21 RBIs. Overall, Lewis has played more than 100 games at the MLB level just once in his career. He is hitting .247 lifetime with 53 home runs and 177 RBIs.

The Twins will be interesting to watch as the trade deadline approaches. They are 38-41 on the season, which places them 3.5 games out in the AL Central. Still, they are just a game out of a wild-card spot in the American League.
