The Atlanta Hawks jump-started the offseason with a pair of roster moves over the weekend, agreeing to a contract extension with veteran guard CJ McCollum and then acquiring reserve wing Aaron Wiggins in a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder. And with the NBA Draft scheduled for this week, the Hawks might not be done making roster moves this offseason.
The Hawks come into the NBA Draft with two first round picks, including one in the lottery at No. 8. And with the draft only one day away now, the Hawks reportedly have been open to offers regarding both the No. 8 and the No. 23 picks, as per ClutchPoints’ NBA insider Brett Siegel.
In addition to the draft picks, the Hawks have potential decisions to make on former No. 1 overall pick Zaccharie Risacher and last season’s big trade deadline acquisition in Jonathan Kuminga. The trade that could materialize involving the Hawks is for New Orleans Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III. Murphy is a player that has drawn considerable interest across the league with the Pelicans believed to be holding out for a huge asking price should they decide to move him.
After a somewhat solid rookie season, Risacher took a step back this past year. He appeared in 67 games, including 46 starts, at a little over 22 minutes per game. He averaged 9.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists with splits of 45.5 percent shooting from the field, 36.8 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 64.4 percent shooting from the free-throw line. Not gaudy numbers by any stretch, but not what would be expected from a No. 1 pick in their second season.
As for Kuminga, while he did play well during the Hawks’ playoff series against the New York Knicks, Siegel reports that it is not a given that the team views him as part of their future core.
