Alanna Smith ruled out for Storm clash

The Dallas Wings are coming off one of their best wins of the season following a thrilling comeback against the Chicago Sky that was capped off by a Paige Bueckers and-one 3-point shot and Li Yueru’s clutch free-throws. But as the Wings prepare to face off against the Seattle Storm on the road, they will be without the services of backup center Alanna Smith as she appeared on the team’s injury report.

Alanna Smith was officially ruled out for the Wings’ game against the Storm after being listed on the report with a facial injury. Smith initially suffered the injury during the team’s win against the Sky on Saturday. The injury occurred during the first quarter, and Smith exited the game and did not return. She finished with three points and two steals in five minutes.

Smith was one of the Wings’ major offseason acquisitions, signing her to a three-year max contract. But with a little over a quarter of the season gone by, she hasn’t quite yet had the impact that the Wings were hoping for after finishing as Co-Defensive Player of the Year with A’ja Wilson last year.

The former No. 8 overall pick has appeared in 15 games for the Wings thus far, including seven starts, at a little over 15 minutes per game. She’s been averaging 3.5 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists with splits of 37.9 percent shooting from the field, 14.8 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 71.4 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

With Smith sidelined for the time being, that likely means more minutes off the bench for Yueru.
