Cam Newton defends Michelle Obama after Josh Hokit’s vile UFC Freedom 250 comment

Cam Newton is not letting UFC fighter Josh Hokit disrespect former First Lady Michelle Obama.

On Newton’s podcast, the former Carolina Panthers quarterback blasted Hokit for his disgusting comment about Michelle after his postgame interview following his win over Derrick Lewis at UFC Freedom 250 last weekend. He was interviewed by podcaster Joe Rogan when he unexpectedly shouted towards the end of his interview, “And lastly, Michelle Obama is a man. Am I right, America?”

Newton shared his thoughts on the situation and how he felt about the disrespect.

“In our culture, we don’t play about certain individuals. Certain people are untouchable,” Newton said. “If you utter anything disrespectful about an Obama, it doesn’t matter if it’s the daughters, it doesn’t matter if it’s the wife… They are some good people, they served this country well.”

Newton went on to explain how Michelle Obama shouldn’t have been mentioned in the first place. To be clear, Michelle nor her husband, Former President Barack Obama, were in attendance at the event or had any involvement.

“See, that was an innocent bystander,” he continued. “But Mr. Josh, you’re going to stay away from that one. We don’t play about that one.”

The 2015 NFL MVP then questioned what Hokit was thinking.

“Who knows whether he was in his right or wrong mind,” Newton said. “But at the end of the day… be very careful and be very mindful the people who you ain’t cool with or who you don’t like.”

Newton concluded his statement about the incident with how not only him was disgusted with his comment.

“The fact that even Joe Rogan was taken aback. That was tasteless. You’re doing way too much,” Newton said. “Brother, please think about what you said, because that was stupid.”

Not only Newton took issue to Hokit’s comment, but so did Alexis Ohanian. The Reddit co-founder — who’s married to Serena Williams — attended the event but was not there when the comment was made.

“Lot of people asking me to comment: Yes, that fighter’s slur about former First Lady Michelle Obama was vile and inappropriate,” Ohanian wrote on Wednesday, June 17.

He continued, “I attended the UFC event via invitation from TKO/IMG leadership [I own 5 pro sports teams + a league]. I was already on my way home when those comments were made and was glad to see [UFC president and CEO White] Dana condemn them.”
