Timberwolves making huge Ayo Dosunmu move after Julius Randle trade

The Minnesota Timberwolves have started to get busy in the offseason, starting with the three-team trade that sent Julius Randle and their No. 28 pick in this week’s draft to the Brooklyn Nets.

In return, the Timberwolves received the Nets’ No. 33 pick, while the Chicago Bulls acquired Nic Claxton.

Following the development, Minnesota has offered a lucrative contract to Ayo Dosunmu, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania on Monday.

“Free agent guard Ayo Dosunmu intends to sign a five-year, $112 million contract to return to the Minnesota Timberwolves, with a player option in the fifth season, sources tell ESPN. The Timberwolves made it a major priority to lock in Dosunmu after his tremendous postseason,” wrote Charania on X.

As expected, the 26-year-old Dosunmu will stay in Minnesota after being shipped by the Bulls in February. In 24 games for the Timberwolves, he averaged 14.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.0 steals.

Minnesota gave up Rob Dillingham, Leonard Miller, and four second-round picks to get Dosunmu, along with Julian Philips, from Chicago. It immediately paid off, with Dosunmu becoming a revelation for the Timberwolves, particularly in the playoffs. He stepped up in the absence of Anthony Edwards and Donte DiVincenzo before being hampered by a heel injury.

Dosunmu has improved his game every year, making him a dependable two-way weapon. He will likely figure heavily in the team’s vision for next season, especially with Randle gone.

The Timberwolves are probably not done yet in the offseason, as they are also reportedly targeting Derrick White of the Boston Celtics.
