The WNBA might ring up the Indiana Fever and the Phoenix Mercury after their tension-filled tussle at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Monday. The Fever escaped with the win, 86-77, despite their lackluster start.
Everything came to a head in the fourth quarter, as high-strung emotions got the best of Indiana and Phoenix.
First, Myisha Hines-Allen got into it with Alyssa Thomas, leading to a technical foul for each. A few seconds later, Caitlin Clark was whistled for a technical foul for talking smack to DeWanna Bonner during a battle for position. Then it was Sophie Cunningham’s turn to have a heated exchange with Bonner. They were both assessed a technical foul.
Less than 10 seconds later, Hines-Allen shoved Thomas, earning her a second technical foul and an automatic ejection.

Thomas did not retaliate and simply walked away, knowing that she would likely be tossed if she did.
Hines-Allen finished with three points, one rebound, and one assist in 14 minutes off the bench. Thomas, meanwhile, had 19 points, five rebounds, nine assists, one steal, and one block.
Clark led the Fever with game-highs of 24 points and nine assists. She shot 8-of-17 from the field and added three rebounds.
Indiana clawed back from an early 16-point deficit, going on an offensive surge in the third quarter to take control of the contest. The Mercury tried to rally in the fourth period, but the Fever did not relinquish the momentum.
The Fever improved to 10-7, including 7-3 at home. The Mercury, on the other hand, suffered their fifth loss in six games and fell to 5-13.
