Oklahoma takes down North Carolina in College World Series

Oklahoma baseball delivered a galvanizing run in the College World Series. Even getting famed Sooners fan and former WWE commentator Jim Ross to cheer amid a hospital stay. Now OU took down North Carolina with the title on the line.

Turning to their offensive firepower, the Sooners blasted the Tar Heels 13-2 in winning the series 2-1 during the double-elimination format. And Oklahoma secures its first baseball national title since the 1994 season.

OU started off slow in Omaha, though. UNC left-handed pitcher Jackson Rose came after the batters right away. He struck out the lead-off batter Jason Walk to set the tone on the Tar Heels’ side. Oklahoma managed to get two on base even after a tag out at second. But Rose struck out Trey Gambill to close the inning.

Rose forced an early out in the top of the second at second after a fielder’s choice ground ball. But Kyle Branch launched the scoring onslaught for the SEC power, driving two teammates home in powering a single over to right field.

Right-handed pitcher Nick Wesloski executed a stellar outing on the hill. He left two Tar Heels stranded on base during the second with no runs. He struck out three batters before giving way to Xander Mercurius, who claimed the win by fanning five and allowing four hits.

Branch put the game away for good with a two-run home run blast in the eighth. Dayton Tockey ripped a home run too during the fifth, which was a solo blast.

This is now OU’s third baseball national crown, winning its first one back in 1951.
