The 1 other time Celtics offered Jaylen Brown in trade besides Giannis Antetokounmpo talks

The Boston Celtics are now in an awkward position after missing out on Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Celtics and the Miami Heat were widely viewed as the favorites to land Antetokounmpo via a deal with the Milwaukee Bucks. On Monday, the Heat acquired the two-time MVP.

The Celtics reportedly offered Jaylen Brown as the centerpiece of their trade package, which also included two first-round picks. The Bucks, however, did not bite.

Now, the obvious question for Boston is, what will happen to Brown? He was already disgruntled with the front office after their first-round exit in the playoffs. What more now that the squad supposedly tried to ship him out?

For what it is worth, it was not the first time that Boston tried to deal the 29-year-old wingman, as pointed out by ESPN’s Bobby Marks.

“This is the second time in four years that Brown has been subject to trade discussions: First with Kevin Durant in 2022 and four years later with Antetokounmpo. Brown is under contract for the next three seasons and is eligible to sign a two-year, $141 million extension starting July 26,” wrote Marks.

At that time, Durant demanded a trade from the Brooklyn Nets. The Celtics offered Brown, Derrick White, and a first-round pick, but the Nets refused.

Marks added that shoring up the frontcourt remains the priority for the Celtics. The team, however, might need to prioritize mending its relationship with Brown as well after failing to get Antetokounmpo.

Last month, Brown touted his “great relationship” with top brass Brad Stevens amid all the chatter surrounding the Celtics and Antetokounmpo. He also affirmed his commitment to Boston, saying he could play in Beantown for “the next 10 years.”
