There was a chance that Bassitt was going to start on Monday against the Seattle Mariners, but the O’s ultimately decided to place him on the IL. Right-handed pitcher Trey Gibson will start the contest after being recalled from Triple-A, the Orioles announced.
Bassitt, 37, is currently in his first season with Baltimore. However, his season has not gone according to plan.
While on the mound, Bassitt has underperformed. The right-handed hurler holds a 5.27 ERA across 12 outings (10 starts). Now he is set to land on the injured list.

The Orioles have dealt with injury concerns throughout the season. Between underperformance and injuries, the O’s have failed to find consistency on the field. The ball club is currently in fourth place in the American League East standings with a 31-35 overall record. They are eight games behind the first place Tampa Bay Rays in the division.
The Orioles could still make a competitive run this year, but they need to turn things around sooner rather than later. The American League is not especially strong this season, so Baltimore could potentially make a run at an American League Wild Card position.
At the moment, the ball club is focused on its upcoming series against the Seattle Mariners, with the first game of the series scheduled for 6:35 PM EST on Monday night.
