Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns continue to assert their dominance in college football recruiting. Recently, they secured a commitment from four-star edge rusher JaBarrius Garror, beating out several SEC rivals. The Longhorns also landed a significant commitment from five-star cornerback John Meredith, who announced his decision live on the Pat McAfee Show.
The Fort Worth native is ranked as the second-best overall recruit in the nation and is considered the crown jewel of Sarkisian’s current recruiting class. Despite being ruled ineligible for his upcoming senior season following a January transfer from Euless Trinity to North Crowley, Meredith’s commitment marks the third top-100 defensive player to join Texas this cycle.
Texas also made strides in its defensive lineup with another major recruitment win. According to Hayes Fawcett on X for Rivals, four-star defensive lineman Tyler Alexander has officially committed to the Longhorns.
Standing at an imposing 6’4″ and weighing 305 pounds, he chose Texas over intense competition from top national programs, including Georgia, Notre Dame, and Colorado. In reference to his decision to move to Austin, Alexander encapsulated the university’s grand scale and his football aspirations with the statement, “Everything is bigger in Texas.”
While the program’s future looks incredibly promising, there is considerable excitement surrounding the current roster, particularly with Arch Manning stepping in as the starting quarterback. Although FOX Sports analyst Joel Klatt recently ranked Manning behind Oregon’s Dante Moore for the 2026 season, there is a substantial basis for optimism.
Manning’s initial stint as a starter in 2025 was marred by inexperience, leading to costly losses to Ohio State and Florida that ultimately kept Texas out of the College Football Playoff. However, his elite athleticism, strong frame, and improved pocket presence became evident late in the season, setting the stage for high expectations in the upcoming campaign.
