Maple Leafs rumors: 3 places Toronto is looking to upgrade this summer

The Toronto Maple Leafs are turning the page after a disastrous 2025-26 season. The Leafs are looking to upgrade in three specific areas this summer, in regard to the roster.

“The Leafs are already in the market for a mid-six centre, a top-six winger and another defenceman, and could look to take a big swing for a new starting goalie,” The Fourth Period reported.

Toronto missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs after posting just 78 points. The Maple Leafs struggled defensively; the team finished -46 in goal differential. Toronto allowed a whopping 299 goals this past season.

As a result, the Leafs want help at the goaltender position. Toronto is keeping an eye on two specific players.

“With Anthony Stolarz and Dennis Hildeby already on the roster, it seems as though the Leafs are looking for an upgrade in net, with speculation starting to mount over potential links to St. Louis Blues goalie Jordan Binnington and Florida Panthers and soon-to-be unrestricted free agent backstop Sergei Bobrovsky,” the outlet added.

Toronto is reportedly also not afraid to make a trade if it believes it can improve the roster. The front office has been involved in trade talks.

“(Maple Leafs GM John) Chayka has around $20 million in salary cap space to work with this off-season, and he continues to engage in trade talks with teams involving the likes of defencemen Morgan Rielly, Jake McCabe and Brandon Carlo,” the outlet added.

The Maple Leafs just hired a new head coach. After Craig Berube was fired, the franchise announced they are bringing back former assistant Jim Hiller to be the new head coach.

“Jim is an experienced coach with a strong understanding of what it takes to win in today’s NHL,” General Manager John Chayka said in a statement. “He has worked with successful teams throughout his career, connects well with players and brings a clear approach behind the bench. We believe he’s the right person to lead our team and help us reach our goals.”

Time will tell if Hiller is able to turn Toronto into a winner again.
