NBA rumors: Wizards, Jazz ready to lock in AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson picks

The 2026 NBA Draft is slated to get underway on Tuesday night in Brooklyn, with the Washington Wizards having the first pick, followed by the Utah Jazz. BYU freshman AJ Dybantsa and Kansas point guard Darryn Peterson are widely expected to be the first two names off the board in this draft, although some feel that the order still could be up for debate.

Recently, ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel revealed another mock draft, and projected Dybantsa to go number one overall to Washington.

“Although Darryn Peterson has been given a long look by the Washington Wizards and is a prospect they truly like, the fact of the matter is that passing on Dybantsa and his pure talent on the wing would go against everything the Wizards have dreamed for over the last few seasons,” he noted.

Of course, Peterson would only end up dropping one spot to number two.

“It seems pretty clear at this point that Peterson knows he’s going to be the second pick, which will put him in a very favorable position with the Jazz team ready to emerge as the next youthful threats in the Western Conference,” reported Siegel.

If this turns out to be true, Dybantsa will be joining a Wizards team that recently signed point guard Trae Young to a long-term extension and also has Anthony Davis and Alex Sarr on the roster. Meanwhile, Peterson will team up with Keyonte George in the Jazz’s backcourt, while joining veterans Lauri Markkanen and Jaren Jackson Jr. on an intriguing roster.

In any case, the NBA Draft is set to get underway at 8:00 pm ET.
