The Milwaukee Bucks finally did it. After rumors dominated the NBA news cycle for what felt like forever, the organization finally followed through in trading Giannis Antetokounmpo, sending him to the Miami Heat for a massive haul of players and draft picks. One of those players involved in the deal was Tyler Herro, who now finds himself leaving the beautiful beaches in Miami for the cold wintery landscape of Milwaukee.
However, the 26-year-old guard may not remain with the Bucks for long, as reports indicate that Milwaukee is open to trading Herro away, according to Eric Nehm and Sam Amick of The Athletic. But the franchise is considering its options, as the club is also open to keeping Herro on the roster.
“…League sources say there is strong interest in Herro, and the Bucks will consider sending him elsewhere,” reported Nehm and Amick. “The Bucks, per a team source, are also considering keeping Herro (he has one season left on his $33 million deal).”
If the seven-year veteran is truly available, the Detroit Pistons should jump at the opportunity to make a deal with the Bucks. Rumors already suggest the organization is interested in adding Tyler Herro to the roster, as he could be a strong complement in the backcourt alongside Cade Cunningham.
Herro would plug into the shooting guard spot, replacing Duncan Robinson in the starting lineup. While he and Robinson have a similar play style, Herro is a much more efficient scorer and brings more to the table than just shooting. Considering Detroit is a contender, trading for Tyler Herro would be considered an all-in move for the franchise.
But what can Detroit offer Milwaukee to make a trade come to fruition? The Pistons won’t want to give up anybody in their core roster, however, the club has to make a deal that makes sense with the Bucks financially. Something else to consider is that the Bucks are entering a rebuild by trading Giannis to the Heat, which could work in the Pistons’ favor in potential trade talks.
With that said, here is the best trade offer the Pistons can make to the Bucks for Tyler Herro.
Pistons’ best trade offer to Bucks for Tyler Herro
The Pistons are a little over $31 million over the cap, while the Bucks are just over $24 million over the cap. That means the two teams have to make a deal that is somewhat even in salary for a trade to even work. Just based on the salaries for players who could be traded, Detroit will likely have to offer at least two players in a deal for Herro.
With the Bucks in a rebuild, the front office may be open to adding players just to reduce the cap space, not for this offseason, but for next year. In that scenario, Milwaukee would want players who are entering the final year of their contracts.
So, to make a deal like that happen, the Pistons will have to give up draft capital. Luckily for Detroit, the franchise owns pick No. 21 in the 2026 NBA Draft, along with its first-round picks in 2027 and beyond. As for the Bucks, despite acquiring a haul of picks from Miami, the organization lacks draft capital in years 2027, 2028, and 2029. That’s where Detroit comes in.
An offer the Bucks may consider accepting from the Pistons is Caris LeVert, Duncan Robinson, the No. 21 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, the club’s first-round pick in 2027 (unprotected), and Detroit’s 2028 first-round pick (lottery protected). Milwaukee would be giving up Tyler Herro and a future second-round pick in this scenario.
Herro is probably worth two first-round picks. But considering the Bucks would be eating LeVert’s $14 million salary in this offer, while acquiring Robinson, who still has two years remaining on his contract with a $16.8 million salary, the Pistons might have to give up just a tad more to get the deal finalized. Adding the protection in 2028 and acquiring a future second-round pick gives Detroit some insurance.
The Bucks would walk away with LeVert, who is entering the final year of his contract, and Robinson, who at least would provide consistent shooting from the perimeter, and could become a trade asset before the deadline in the 2026-27 season. However, most importantly, Milwaukee would be adding three more first-round picks to help with its rebuild.
As for the Pistons, the roster would be rather stacked for next year and the future if the club decides to extend Herro beyond this coming season. The starting lineup would likely consist of Cade Cunningham, Tyler Herro, Ausar Thompson, Isaiah Stewart, and Jalen Duren.
