The Oklahoma City Thunder have the number 12 and 17 picks in the upcoming 2026 NBA Draft, which is slated to take place on Tuesday night in Brooklyn. The Thunder have already made one move this offseason, trading Aaron Wiggins to the Atlanta Hawks in order to clear salary from their books.
Recently, ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel reported on the latest intel involving the Thunder in a mock draft, projecting them to take big man Morez Johnson Jr. out of Michigan with the 12th pick.
“…Many keep pointing to (Nate) Ament being Sam Presti’s ultimate target if he can jump into the top 10, although (Aday) Mara makes more sense, especially after watching Victor Wembanyama give Chet Holmgren the business. But should the Thunder actually keep this pick and make a selection, Morez Johnson Jr. is gaining a lot of traction to be the 12th pick.”
Indeed, finding someone who has at least a prayer of slowing down Wembanyama will be of paramount importance to a Thunder team that figures to have many battles with the San Antonio Spurs over the years to come.
With the 17th pick, Siegel projected the Thunder to take forward Karim Lopez from Mexico, although he noted that “…Nobody expects the Thunder to be making a pick here.”
Indeed, the Thunder have been rumored to be interested in moving either up or down in the NBA Draft over the last several weeks, with many thinking they could package their two picks together in order to move up into the top ten and add another intriguing young talent to their stable.
In any case, the NBA Draft is slated to get underway on Tuesday at 8:00 pm ET.
