MLB fans left baffled by Buster Olney’s Mets-Giants blockbuster trade idea

MLB Trade season is a month away, and the league could very well see the San Francisco Giants trade away their three best hitters, setting the ballclub up for a major rebuild.

The Giants are a bad baseball team right now. Already 18 games back of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West division, SF is 31-46 with a -54 run differential, has lost six of their last 10 games, including three in a row. The Giants were swept on the road by the Miami Marlins and now host the rising Athletics for a Bay Area showdown. There is no light at the end of the tunnel for the Gigantes in 2026 and beyond, and Buster Posey may be forced to trade away some serious talent.

ESPN Insider Buster Olney mentioned on X that the ballclub will likely listen to offers for its star players and that the New York Mets could be one of the teams involved.

“Pure speculation, but worth exploring for the Mets and Giants: A deal involving Willy Adames and Marcus Semien. The Giants would have to eat a good chunk of money in Adames’s deal to make it happen, but Adames could play third, Bichette could move to second, and Semien would return to the Bay Area. SF has signaled a willingness to listen to offers for Adames, Chapman, Devers.”

MLB fans are baffled by the idea that the Giants and Mets would agree to a trade involving Willy Adames and Marcus Semien.

The Rafael Devers situation is very, very odd. It seems like he is not happy there, and in fairness, the Red Sox trading Devers to the Bay Area was a wild move in itself. It didn’t make sense then, it doesn’t make sense now, and the only thing that makes sense is to see him traded again.

Over the weekend, Devers was seen not wanting to leave the game. You can’t blame him for wanting to stay in the game, but that situation showed that there is a lot of drama going on in the clubhouse.

It might just be time for the Giants to blow it up.
