Deion Sanders and Colorado football keep landing wins on the college football recruiting trail. Colorado recently brought in a three-star safety, Samari Howard, over teams such as Indiana and West Virginia.
Now, Colorado has landed a four-star recruit that had committed to Ole Miss just a day prior, according to Hayes Fawcett of Rivals.
“Not even 24 hours ago Ben’Jarvis Shumaker announced he was ‘shutting down his recruitment’ with Ole Miss. He just flipped to Colorado. Recruiting in 2026, man,” Fawcett posted on X, formerly Twitter.
Shumaker has previously announced his commitment to Ole Miss on his personal X account.
“First, I want to Thank God, my family, and my coaches for believing in me and supporting me through this journey. With that being said, I’m blessed to announce that I have committed to Ole Miss,” he wrote.
The Mississippi native was expected to join his teammate, Caleb Cunningham, on the Ole Miss campus, but will now be heading to Colorado. Shumaker is the 76th ranked proepsct in the class of 2027 and the seventh-best defensive lineman, while also being ranked as the third best played from the state of Mississippi. Rivals analyst Greg Biggins also called him a top-end prospect.
“Shumaker is on the short list when talking about the top interior defensive lineman in the country. Had a big junior season, totaling 69 tackles 17 for loss, 7 sacks and two forced fumbles. Very strong, especially in his lower half and can take on double teams and still get a push. Gets off the ball well, shows an active motor and lives on the other side of the line of scrimmage. Can win with speed and power and has the ability to dominate at the point of attack. Plays high at times and will need some technical work like most high school interior lineman but very high ceiling and projects as a high impact player at the Power 4 level,” Bigging noted.
Colorado now has 16 commitments for the class of 2027 and is ranked 35th in the nation. They also have the third best class in the Big 12.
