NBA rumors: Warriors’ trade talks with Hornets, Pelicans get tantalizing update

Heading into draft night, one name that has reportedly drawn considerable trade interest across the league regarding trade interest in New Orleans Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III, with the Golden State Warriors among the interested teams.

In fact, the Warriors have reportedly been involved in trade talks with both the Pelicans and the Charlotte Hornets regarding the No. 11 pick and Trey Murphy, as per Michael Scotto of Hoopshype.com. The Pelicans would be potentially targeting Tennessee forward Nate Ament if they are able to move into the lottery at No. 11.

As far as the Hornets’ potential involvement in moving up in the draft, they are reportedly after Michigan big man Morez Johnson Jr., as per ClutchPoints’ NBA insider Brett Siegel. With the Oklahoma City Thunder also registering interest in Johnson, the Hornets are attempting to move up to select him with a both the No. 14 and No. 18 picks on the table for the Warriors.

But while the Warriors do hold legitimate interest in Murphy and are reportedly open to trade conversations, they are not going to overpay to pry him away from the Pelicans and it’s not a given that they will even trade the pick, per Siegel. Arizona guard Brayden Burries is a reported target for Golden State at No. 11.

In the case of Murphy, the interest around the league no doubt stems from his rise over the last couple of seasons. While the Pelicans have struggled overall, the former first round pick has emerged as a potential All-Star talent. He’s coming off averaging a career-high 21.5 points while shooting 47 percent from the field and 37.9 percent from the 3-point line.
