The Brooklyn Nets are potentially searching for a replacement for big man Nic Claxton following the three-team trade involving the Chicago Bulls and Minnesota Timberwolves that brought the Nets Julius Randle. And it’s possible that the Nets could find their Claxton replacement when they’re on the clock at pick No. 28 in the NBA Draft.
One intriguing name that could very well likely be available when the Nets’ pick is up is former Arizona State and Kentucky big man Jayden Quaintance, as per ClutchPoints’ NBA insider Brett Siegel. One projected as a sure-fire first round pick, Quaintance’s medical history is reportedly issuing cause for concern, and he could slip out of the first round entirely.
But there’s no denying his talent when healthy, and the Nets could have their Claxton replacement via the NBA Draft if they decide they want to take a risk.
“As far as talent goes, and assuming he can be his previous self, Quaintance projects to be an elite defensive playmaker with a high understanding of being a lob threat of pick-and-roll situations,” Siegel reports. “There are a lot of similarities in his game to a young Robert Williams III early in his career with the Boston Celtics. But again, everything for Quaintance depends on his health and medical record.”
This past season, he was limited to only four games in his lone season with the Wildcats. He averaged 5.0 points and 5.0 rebounds while shooting 57.1 percent from the field. He is certainly a big risk due to his injury history, but there upside could be too great to pass on.
