The Kansas City Royals have dealt with injuries this season. Bobby Witt Jr. has been dealing with an injury concern, while Vinnie Pasquantino is currently on the injured list. On Tuesday, the Royals placed star third baseman Maikel Garcia on the IL as well with a left hand muscle strain. Garcia was placed on the 10-day IL and the ball club recalled infielder Josh Rojas from Triple-A in a corresponding move.
Kansas City entered the season with lofty expectations. Injuries have unfortunately impacted the team far too often. The Royals have not played up to their expectations overall. It goes without saying, but losing Garcia will only make matters worse.
Garcia, 26, was an All-Star who finished 14th in American League MVP voting last year. He also earned a Gold Glove Award. So far in 2026, the third baseman is hitting .261/.320/.373 across 69 games played. He has three home runs and 17 doubles as well.
Garcia is not finding as much success as he did last year, but he is still an impactful player without question. The Royals are certainly going to miss Garcia’s presence during his injury absence.
Kansas City is 33-46 overall so far during the ’26 campaign. The ball club is in last place in the American League Central standings. Although the AL Central is not the best division in baseball, the Royals are still eight games back of first place.
Kansas City will attempt to bounce back despite all of the injuries on the roster. The Royals’ next game is scheduled for Tuesday night at 6:40 PM EST against the Tampa Bay Rays.
