The Florida Panthers have already shaken up the NHL landscape by acquiring Brady Tkachuk from the Ottawa Senators over the weekend, but general manager Bill Zito may not be done making significant moves this summer.
One of the biggest questions still facing the organization is in goal, where veteran netminder Sergei Bobrovsky — who backstopped the club to back-to-back Stanley Cup wins in 2024 and 2025 — has yet to sign a new contract.
The Panthers are in excellent shape up front and on the blue line, with 19 players already signed for 2026-27. However, Florida currently doesn’t have a single goaltender under contract, with both Bobrovsky and Daniil Tarasov eligible to become unrestricted free agents on July 1.
Although negotiations between the Panthers and Bobrovsky are ongoing, there is growing uncertainty regarding whether the former Vezina Trophy winner will remain in Sunrise long-term. If the two sides cannot reach an agreement, Florida appears to have identified at least one potential replacement.
According to The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta, the Panthers have interest in St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington.
“Zito is believed to have interest in St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington, who is entering the final year of his contract,” the hockey insider reported on Monday.
“Binnington, 32, will see his six-year, $36 million contract expire at the end of next season. He owns a 10-team no-trade list, as part of his deal, and the Blues are exploring their options. The Stanley Cup champion may be the out man out in St. Louis as the club retools and seems to be eager to move ahead with Joel Hofer in net.”
Hofer enjoyed an excellent 2025-26 campaign and is widely viewed as the goaltender of the future in Missouri. Binnington struggled at times last season, but he has proven he can still deliver in high-pressure situations, as evidenced by his performances for Team Canada at both the 4 Nations Face-Off and the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan.
Pagnotta reports that, along with the Panthers, the Edmonton Oilers, New Jersey Devils and Toronto Maple Leafs “are reevaluating their respective goaltending position.”
With Winnipeg Jets superstar Connor Hellebuyck also potentially on the block, there could be a plethora of NHL goaltenders changing teams this summer. And based on Pagnotta’s reporting, Binnington appears to be one of the names worth monitoring most closely.
