Blue Jays announce 2 more roster moves after activating Shane Bieber

The Toronto Blue Jays are finally seeing Shane Bieber back on the mound on Tuesday afternoon against the Houston Astros. An earlier start time than normal, the Jays and Astros begin at 4:07 ET. For the first time since last postseason, Bieber will toe the slab.

On Tuesday, ahead of the game, Toronto made the official transaction, which includes two other moves.

“RHP Shane Bieber reinstated from 60-day IL and will be active today, RHP Lazaro Estrada optioned to Triple-A, and RHP Hayden Juenger designated for assignment.”

The longtime Cleveland star pitcher has only appeared in 12 total games with the Jays. He was hurt for the majority of the 2024 and 2025 seasons, so we have not seen much of him at all as of late. He’s pitched in just 52.1 innings since 2023. But make no mistake, the 31-year-old has plenty of juice left in the tank. The California native owns a career 3.24 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and 66-34 record. He is five strikeouts shy of 1,000 for his career, and that could come in the game against the Astros on Tuesday.

Bieber plans on being a big part of the rotation down the stretch as the team is attempting to make a comeback in the 2026 season. It hasn’t started well, but the team is back to .500 with the hopes of staying on track. The team has won six of their last 10 and two in a row. They are only 7.5 games out of the AL East and are currently in the final wild card spot.

With Bieber back, it will be interesting to see how the Blue Jays attack the starting pitching market ahead of the MLB Trade Deadline at the end of July.
