Nets rumors: Does Julius Randle really want to stay in Brooklyn after getting dumped by Timberwolves?

The Brooklyn Nets made headlines on Monday evening when they traded for Minnesota Timberwolves power forward Julius Randle in what was essentially a salary dump move for Minnesota. Randle now joins a Nets team that will be selecting with the number six pick in the NBA Draft on Tuesday night, right at home in Brooklyn.

Recently, Michael Scotto of Hoopshype reported on whether or not Randle is happy to be a member of the Nets, or if he is hoping to find a new home before the season gets underway.

“Randle is excited to join the Nets and wants to be in Brooklyn, league sources told HoopsHype. After coming to New York amid a rebuilding situation, Randle evolved into a three-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA forward who helped the crosstown rival Knicks reach consecutive Eastern Conference Semifinals appearances before being dealt to Minnesota as part of the Karl-Anthony Towns trade,” reported Scotto.

Indeed, Randle was, in many ways, the first key part of the Knicks’ rebuild from laughingstock into NBA champion, getting New York back into the playoffs in 2021 and becoming a key part of the team for the next few years after that. While his style of play and postseason plummets can sometimes irritate fans, he remains a talented power forward who can go get his own bucket, play solid defense, and clearly has no problems embracing rebuilding situations in New York City.

Randle will hope to pull off a similar magic trick with the Nets as he did with the Knicks, and he’ll have a talented teammate coming along for the ride after the Nets get through drafting on Tuesday night.

The draft is slated to get underway at 8:00 pm ET.
