The 2026 MLB Draft is set to begin in mid-July, and there are numerous high-quality prospects available in this year’s class. One of the elite prospects this year is a shortstop many believe has the potential to become a star in the major leagues. While the Texas Rangers may not be in a position to draft him, the high-level prospect claimed he is modeling his game after shortstop Corey Seager.
Grady Emerson, a shortstop out of Fort Worth Christian High School in Texas, admitted he copies his style of play after Seager, according to MLB reporter Joey Mistretta of ClutchPoints.
“Potential No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft, Grady Emerson — who is from Texas and went to Fort Worth Christian High School — says Rangers star Corey Seager is a player he tries to play like, via MLB Network,” reported Mistretta. “Emerson, a shortstop, may end up being the No. 2 overall pick with UCLA star Roch Cholowsky also in the draft, but his future is bright without question.”
Corey Seager is an excellent player to model your game after, as the five-time All-Star has had an impressive 12-year career. The Rangers star has been solid at the plate, while also serving as a consistent defender at shortstop. In 4,521 career at-bats (and counting), Seager owns a .285 batting average and .358 OBP with 1,287 hits, 230 home runs, and 691 RBIs.
Grady Emerson is the type of prospect MLB teams are drooling over, as the 2026 Gatorade National Player of the Year has been compared to Kansas City Royals star Bobby Witt Jr. His last year in high school, Emerson recorded a .532/.648/1.013 statline, with seven home runs and 31 stolen bases.
The Rangers own the No. 13 overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft. Texas is too far back in the draft order to have a chance to select the highly touted shortstop. The teams with the first three picks of the draft are the Colorado Rockies, Los Angeles Angels, and Boston Red Sox.
