Bill Zito drops ‘fantasy hockey’ revelation on Panthers’ roster construction

The Florida Panthers formally introduced new team member Brady Tkachuk on Tuesday. General manager Bill Zito appeared with Tkachuk at his introductory press conference. Zito was asked by reporters about how he is feeling at the moment, in regards to his club.

“I feel great. We have all the pros in town actually a little early. Every day we sit back there and play fantasy hockey, trying to figure out ways to improve,” Zito said at the presser. “We will continue to do that. We’re not done. We will be very focused and very thorough in how we evaluate each position moving forward….we have to get it right.”

Zito doesn’t mind having these kinds of challenges to deal with.

“It’s actually a lot of fun,” he added.

The Panthers traded with the Ottawa Senators for Tkachuk. He will be playing with his brother Matthew in Florida. The Panthers are hoping to bounce back after a disappointing 2025-26 campaign.

Brady Tkachuk is ready for this moment

Brady is excited about this fresh start with a new club.

“I feel like it’s the closest group in the league, everybody is just doing stuff together,” Brady said about his new team at the presser. “…Everybody is a part of the puzzle. Everybody, their sole focus is winning.”

The Panthers are just as excited to have Brady on board.

“Brady is a dynamic competitor and one of the most physical and relentless forwards in the league,” Zito said in a news release. “A proven leader and exactly the type of player we want in our locker room, he strives to make everyone around him better both on and off the ice. We’re thrilled to welcome Brady to South Florida to join our group as we continue our pursuit of championship hockey.”

The Panthers missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs this year. That was a surprise to many, as the team was coming off back-to-back Stanley Cup titles. Panthers fans hope the Tkachuk brothers can get the team back in the postseason right away.
