Carmelo Anthony Details Timothée Chalamet’s Impact on Knicks Culture

Carmelo Anthony believes the New York Knicks’ championship run did more than bring home a trophy. He says it brought the city together.

Speaking with Variety’s Ramin Setoodeh at Cannes Lions, the former Knicks star reflected on the team’s historic title and the celebrity fans who helped fuel the excitement. Among them was actor Timothée Chalamet, whose courtside presence became a regular storyline throughout the season.

Anthony recalled interviewing Chalamet on his “7PM in Brooklyn” podcast and revealed he even gave the actor a unique honor.

“I actually gave him an award, my ‘Favorite White Boy’ award,” Anthony joked. “He was happy about that.”

Knicks Championship Created New Energy

When asked to name the best celebrity Knicks fan, Anthony highlighted several well-known supporters across different generations.

“We have the OGs, the Spike Lees, the Ben Stillers of the world,” Anthony said. “Then we have this new generation, like Timothée Chalamet. He’s running around representing the Knicks to the fullest.”

Anthony also mentioned Fat Joe as another longtime supporter of the franchise.

While celebrity fandom grabbed headlines during the playoff run, Anthony focused on the broader impact of the championship. He said the victory sparked renewed energy throughout New York, extending beyond basketball and into businesses, neighborhoods, and everyday life.

“What the Knicks were able to do is prove that sports unifies a lot of things and people,” Anthony said. “It brings everything together.”

For Anthony, the championship served as a reminder that sports can still unite an entire city behind a common cause.
